仕掛けのある籠に鳩を入れた。Aグループの籠のスイッチは、押すと必ず餌が出てくるようにした。Bグループの籠のスイッチは、押すとたまに餌が出るようにした。結果、Aの鳩はお腹が空くと、スイッチを押し、餌を食べた。一方Bの鳩は、取り付かれたように一日中スイッチを押し続けるようになった。これは、部分強化という手法で、パチンコにハマる人などに応用されている。
